A COUPLE'S OWN

I was about to put out my old newspapers when I came across this interesting piece which I somehow missed. It was about a young couple from the US who were having difficulties making ends meet. What made matters more challenging was that they also had to support their 20-month old daughter. The husband is 24 and the wife 21.

So in order to turn things around, they decided to become webcam models. For those of you who don't know, webcam models stream live sex shows to paying customers on a network. The good news is that they are now living comfortably and are hopeful of providing a better life for their daughter. The bad news is that is has really taken its toll on their sex lives.

I then went online to google more about them and ironically, came to a local forum where people were tearing their characters a part. I was flabbergasted and perhaps more disgusted that such criticism was coming from my own fellow countrymen and women. Typical.

We live in a judgemental society bordering on the hypocritical and while I love living here, what irks me is the self-proclaimed moralistic ones who think that such work is degrading. My question is why bother? Being a webcam model is a job and as long as no children or animals are abused, or drugs and violence showcased, I dare say it is a decent living. If sex is going to pay the bills and if there is no other or better way to make a living at that point in time, who are we to judge.

In some ways, I am inspired by this couple, not to do what they do but to totally ignore what others say about what I do or write. Singapore is such a good place to live in but I tell you, some people here ought to have their heads (and butts) screwed really good.
